Welcome to Year Four

I’m Mrs Jelley and I am the class teacher in Year 4. We are also supported by two tremendous teaching assistants, Miss Douglas and Mrs Harris, who strive to help the children achieve well and enjoy their learning.
Year 4 is a fantastic year of opportunity, interest and excitement- we learn a lot!
Children are able to develop their independence, co-operation and team-working skills and are given the chance to explore new topics and new learning. We expect to see great enthusiasm, determination and resilience in the classroom, but we make lessons fun as well as productive.
In English, the children look at different genres of writing, are taught new skills and are shown tips and techniques to make the most of their fertile imaginations.  They learn to use these effectively within their written work.
In Maths, the children use pictorial, abstract and concrete approaches to help them develop their numerical and deductive skills and to gain confidence in all branches of the subject.
The children study a range of topics in history, particularly the Anglo Saxons and Romans, and are given the opportunities to explore different artefacts. In geography, they develop an understanding of the wider world and look specifically at human and physical factors by focusing on the River Mersey.

Important information:

  • PE kit needs to be worn to school on a Tuesday (white t-shirt, navy/black shorts or trousers)
  • Homework is set on Google Classrooms every Friday and is due the following Friday. A week gives your child the opportunity if they are struggling with any aspect of their homework to talk this through with their teacher and be offered support to help them.
  • Children are given spellings and times tables to practise and learn.
  • Reading books should be in school every day.

What I can do to help my child?

  • Access ‘TT Rockstars’
  • Practise spellings
  • Check homework is being completed on time
  • Use ‘Class Dojo’ and Google Classrooms
  • Read with your child regularly
As always, please do not hesitate to come to speak to the team if you need any more information or have any questions.
