Year 1 2023 - 2024

Welcome to Year 1

In Year 1, we recognise and understand the need for children to feel safe and secure, especially when making the transition from Reception. The relationship children form with learning during the early years is fundamental to their future academic success and lifelong perspectives. For children at Parklands, the transition from EYFS into Year 1 remains engaging and exciting with the introduction of Continuous Provision. This is an integral part of a strong transition for the children and it ensures that the curriculum is child-led, engaging and purposeful. We strive to ensure that children are provided with a variety of creative and memorable learning experiences that are accessible for each and every child.

Our aim is to equip each child with numerous opportunities to apply their learning in a range of different contexts. Continuous Provision can enable children to explore recent learning, practice new skills, and follow their own interests. It also gives the children time to think, plan and explore. This approach also allows our dedicated team time to work flexibly to support children on an individual level.

Our teacher in Year 1 is Miss Edwards who is supported by an incredible team of support staff. We have Teaching Assistants Mrs Cox, Mrs Chapman and Mrs Jenkins. PPA cover is covered by Mrs Barnsley one afternoon a week.

PE is on Monday and Wednesday and children should come to school in their full PE kit. Phonics homework is sent home daily. Spellings are sent home weekly. Please practise these with your children at home.
